Familiar faces and some concerning finds. I'll be there shortly.
( the tower, but damian doesn't search upwards when he arrives. instead, it's straight through the door and over to the elevator shaft that leads down. not so he can wait for the cab to come to him, so he can just - pry the door open and let himself fall down the shaft.
( he's at his workstation there when damian makes his grand entrance to the basement of the tower. funny how he seems to know where bruce would be. sparks fly, goggles on, eyes focused on the work he's doing, yet he still hears damian's arrival without even having to look over. )
Have you eaten today?
( asked while still focused on the work he's doing. )
( bruce spotting him isn't surprising. damian doesn't bother trying to hide his presence, but even if he had been, he knows how well-attuned his father's senses are.
he approaches the workbench, coming up beside bruce so he can look over at what he's currently working on. they can get into everything else in a moment. )
( child. setting his equipment down, he reaches over for a drawer and pulls out a bag of veggie chips β hands them over to damian β then goes back to what he's working on: a very gentle prototype of his cowl with what appears to be lenses in them. fixated on his work, he's mindful of damian there near him. )
( the bag of chips earns bruce an indignant eyeroll, but damian doesn't voice his annoyance. just reaches for the bag and tucks it under an arm while he pulls off his gloves.
then reaches up to peel off his domino mask, leaving traces of spirit gum around his eyes and on the mask itself, which he moves to set down on the worktable close to bruce's work. )
Starlite lenses. ( one chip into his mouth, and - look, see, he's eating. ) Mine has a built-in communication line, night vision capabilities, and GPS. I would recommend something similar.
( given how. . . young bruce is, damian wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't. regardless, lane has publicly mentioned the daily planet, which he assumes bruce has connected to kent by now given his previous tenure here.
( another chip directly into his mouth. damian may or may not save some for bruce, these are his now. )
She's Kent's significant other.
( which means that regardless of her timepoint here, she is by extension one of theirs and someone to protect, especially given how squishy she is. humans aren't known for being particularly durable. )
( and he does sound - disappointed. alternative universes don't bother him, but the context of having individuals who should be aware of their existence simply - existing here without having that knowledge is a little disheartening. he imagines it would have been rough on jon, if he were here. having both of his parents show up, but both of them far too young to recognize him.
which is entirely different from damian's circumstances. )
It's also time for me to inform you of what Connor found in Aurora's database.
( he'll get to that other part in a second, but. for the moment, he chooses to focus on miss lane and it's when he stops with his work β lifts his goggles up above his brow and looks over to damian there. )
She might not be his mother then. Or Clark's significant other.
( he stares to damian. lets his gaze drop for a moment. )
It's just a possibility you need to consider before getting attached.
( just as he might not ever have his own damian back in his gotham. something he's had to consider and privately deal with in the months he's had damian with him here. )
It doesn't matter what she is or is not. What matters is how others perceive her, given that is what they will base their actions on.
( whether they leave her alone or target her to hurt others. and regardless, damian's approach is concerning how jon would react. she matters to jon, therefore she'll matter to damian regardless of whether she's aware of kent's existence. )
( a couple of steps forward, before damian presses a hand against the work bench away from the power tools so he can lift himself to sit on the edge, facing bruce. )
It's the same concept of how I am treated much differently depending on if I go by Damian al Ghul versus Damian Wayne. Damian Wayne is the child of a billionaire philanthropist, a difficult-to-reach target that comes with a large payday attached for anyone who manages to get hold of me. Damian al Ghul is the heir to the Demon's empire, and not to be trifled with.
( he watches as damian hoists himself up to sit. listens to what he has to say. then, setting his tool down, he reaches around with an arm and gives damian a one-armed hug. he doesn't give an explanation for it β doesn't bother to say anything about why he might feel the need to or what might have prompted his wanting to. instead, he offers him the hug until he comes to pull back and look to him, goggles still resting above his brow. )
damian didn't say anything particularly worthy of needing a hug. he's unbothered by his dual identities - even discounting his third name. damian's working through all the whys of why this embrace could be happening, before deciding it - ultimately doesn't matter all that much.
he leans into the hug, until bruce pulls away and damian - refocuses. )
Connor found files on the residents of Etraya, in the basement of the hospital. Detailed files. Detailed enough to know the genre I prefer reading.
( gently peeling the goggles off, he sets them down on the work table there. takes a moment to mull over what damian has said. )
Seems like when we were out, they made sure to get everything they could on us. Via whatever methods those may be. ( a thought. ) Or weβre simply copies of who they have these files on.
( is he joking? hard to tell with bruce sometimes as heβs never one to leave a stone unturned. )
( he says it, but damian certainly doesn't sound sure about that. given the amount of times he has been cloned, and the amount of clones he's met and taken care of, he assumes he would just - be able to tell. but perhaps that's part of the point: damian is certain he would be able to tell, but that certainty could just be a way to mask the truth.
regardless, his status as a clone or not clone doesn't matter all too much. he's here anyway, and the information connor found feels accurate, which is good enough to be accurate. )

Lois Lane has shown up.

Looks like she missed him then.
( what with clark having been gone for three months and nineteen days. not that he's been keeping track or anything. )

( thus, the significance to damian specifically. )
And while capable of handling herself in normal circumstances, it would be best to keep an eye on her while she's here.
