( a couple of steps forward, before damian presses a hand against the work bench away from the power tools so he can lift himself to sit on the edge, facing bruce. )
It's the same concept of how I am treated much differently depending on if I go by Damian al Ghul versus Damian Wayne. Damian Wayne is the child of a billionaire philanthropist, a difficult-to-reach target that comes with a large payday attached for anyone who manages to get hold of me. Damian al Ghul is the heir to the Demon's empire, and not to be trifled with.
( he watches as damian hoists himself up to sit. listens to what he has to say. then, setting his tool down, he reaches around with an arm and gives damian a one-armed hug. he doesn't give an explanation for it β doesn't bother to say anything about why he might feel the need to or what might have prompted his wanting to. instead, he offers him the hug until he comes to pull back and look to him, goggles still resting above his brow. )
damian didn't say anything particularly worthy of needing a hug. he's unbothered by his dual identities - even discounting his third name. damian's working through all the whys of why this embrace could be happening, before deciding it - ultimately doesn't matter all that much.
he leans into the hug, until bruce pulls away and damian - refocuses. )
Connor found files on the residents of Etraya, in the basement of the hospital. Detailed files. Detailed enough to know the genre I prefer reading.
( gently peeling the goggles off, he sets them down on the work table there. takes a moment to mull over what damian has said. )
Seems like when we were out, they made sure to get everything they could on us. Via whatever methods those may be. ( a thought. ) Or weβre simply copies of who they have these files on.
( is he joking? hard to tell with bruce sometimes as heβs never one to leave a stone unturned. )
( he says it, but damian certainly doesn't sound sure about that. given the amount of times he has been cloned, and the amount of clones he's met and taken care of, he assumes he would just - be able to tell. but perhaps that's part of the point: damian is certain he would be able to tell, but that certainty could just be a way to mask the truth.
regardless, his status as a clone or not clone doesn't matter all too much. he's here anyway, and the information connor found feels accurate, which is good enough to be accurate. )
Coming back from the dead isn't meant to be normal, nor is it commonplace where I come from.
( just because jason and damian have both returned from the dead doesn't make it something one should do. numerous others have, too, but - there's always a price to pay in exchange for resurrection. damian would know. )
Softer than I would have anticipated from any version of him.
( perhaps it's because damian views jason as - someone like himself. a trained assassin once disowned. someone who needs to hold back constantly to fit within the restraints of bruce's vision for his family. it's not necessarily a bad thing, for todd to be as he is. it's just - not what damian would expect, nor what he would see himself becoming. )
I can't imagine a world in which that would be correct.
( either damian's parentage would be different, or his parents' circumstances would be different - either way, damian wouldn't be damian at that point. )

Regardless of how it might not always be where you're from. It's still not natural.

Have you run into Todd?

( he also stays at the manor, so. of course he has. though he can't exactly claim he seeks him out, but. he doesn't avoid him either. )
Why?

( he corrects. )
You and I are likely not as we should be for him.
