( he genuinely doesn't know how he would react if damian's mother showed up here. especially not when, from what damian had said, it was something mutual between them. it's all just... complicated and something he tries to not think about. )

I am the blood son of Batman, grandson of the Demon's head, heir to two kingdoms. I have been tutored by only the best of the best since I was born. I would have graduated with a doctorate degree in several subjects long before I reached double digits, had I been in traditional schooling.

( with a look over to bruce, as he shoves his hands into his pockets. )

I have multiple motorcycles in my Cave back home. I've driven school busses and bat-tanks. I am perfectly capable of handling one of your sports cars.

This your way of asking for a car for your birthday?

I can get myself a car.

( here, easily. back home? he has funds of his own. and knows how to break into nearly every car in existence. )

So what do you want for your birthday then?

( it's asked after he gives a slight huff. )

. . . Father missed my thirteenth birthday. He was off attending to League duties.

( damian doesn't need anything, nor does he particularly want to receive anything. anything material item he wants, he can get for himself. )

( wow, damian. this one is trying. )

So should I just ignore it?

[brat]

No. I meant - don't miss it. That's what I want.

( he knows bruce is trying. he's doing his best with what he has, which, considering he's bruce is a lot on it's own. )

( mm. looking ahead, he nods slowly at that. )

Provided a mission doesn't separate us, I won't.

( he'll do his best not to. )

So... you're turning fourteen then?

[brat]

It's not a birthday of significance. My tenth and thirteenth were as far as the other half of my birth family is concerned. Thirteen is when one becomes a man.

( birthdays used to signify when he would test his abilities against his mother. when they would spar, so damian could fight for the right to meet his father. birthdays now are met with cakes baked by alfred and candles to blow out.

he prefers them how they are now. )

Fourteen is just getting older.

( bruce is thirty, after all. just barely remembers what it was like being fourteen. )

What do fourteen year olds like nowadays?

I don't know. I don't spend a significant amount of time with fourteen-year-olds.

( or kids in general. he has his titans, but they're all older than him. he has jon, but jon is younger than him. )
